NEW YORK – November 5, 2026 – Marlabs, a leading AI consulting and transformation provider, today announced the release of its new whitepaper, “The Intelligence Is in the Interaction: Designing AI for How People Actually Work.”
The paper argues that AI systems that perform well in testing often fail in production because of how people are asked to use them, and lays out a practical approach for designing the space between the AI and the human.
The risk is already showing up at work. A global study of more than 48,000 people across 47 countries by the University of Melbourne and KPMG found that 66% of people rely on AI output without evaluating its accuracy, and 56% have made mistakes in their work because of AI.
The whitepaper shows how. In one example, AI suggests the wrong medication for a patient record, and the interface offers the specialist only accept or cancel, so she accepts. Redesign the workflow to flag uncertainty, route high-risk answers for review, and document each decision, and the same AI produces a different outcome.
“Enterprises keep investing in better models, but the model is only half the system,” said Thomas Collins, CEO of Marlabs. “AI’s value comes from how people and AI work together: when to trust an answer, when to challenge it, and who owns the decision. Leaders who design that interaction will capture the value, and those who don’t will scale the risk.”
The paper introduces the Marlabs AIx framework for UI/UX design, part of the Marlabs AgilityAI full-lifecycle enterprise AI suite. It treats AI behavior as a cross-functional discipline and outlines:
